The National Youth Choir of Great Britain @ Snape Proms

"Gloriously assured musicality" - Snape Proms 2013

This summer we welcome back the National Youth Choir of Great Britain to the Snape Proms, proudly sponsored by Suffolk Cottage Holidays. The National Youth Choir will be performing a celebration of British choral music. Comprised of five constituent choirs, the National Youth Choir is  “the most inspirational and innovative organisation for young singers in the UK, discovering and nurturing exceptional musical talent, providing unrivalled performance opportunities and world-class musical and leadership training to the widest possible range of young people in society, creating the next generation of music-lovers and choral enthusiasts who will in turn guarantee the continuing excellence and variety of the UK's vibrant and diverse choral tradition.”

Featured on the programme is local composer Benjamin Britten’s choral music. “Benjamin Britten (1913-1976) strongly believed in the power and worth of music for children. Throughout a varied career he created a series of works both for children as central performers and pieces involving elements of child participation. Britten’s own ethos of music education revolved around the notion of total immersion and ownership of the music of young performers - their involvement is not a passive one. In this way each of the pieces he created utilise the child performers in a unique and involving way.”
